Affyn is a mobile geolocation-based game that uses NFTs to expand the world of Play-to-Earn gaming.
The Project
Affyn is a Play-To-Earn metaverse with a difference: players don’t need to make a financial contribution to start playing. This revolutionary approach is reflected elsewhere in Affyn’s model, too, with it being the first mobile Play-to-Earn game in the blockchain space with a native currency that can be used in the real world. Affyn blends the virtual world with the real within the game — and with their real-world merchant partners.
The Current Problem
Players don’t have a say over the games they play. Even if they’re incredibly successful within the game, the in-game economy has no utility in the outside world. With every aspect of the game and experience being at the whim of developers, it’s no wonder that Play-to-Earn gaming has become so appealing.
However, problems have emerged in the Play-to-Earn sphere, too. The existing environment has barriers to entry that can leave potential users unable to get on board. Having a financial barrier to even try a game can turn players away and this is compounded by experiences in which existing players are completely dominant due to large financial contributions. There is also a perceived lack of variety of games, which causes many to assume that they can’t have fun while earning.
Native cryptocurrencies in these games are often considered useless outside of the arena, so the motivation to level up can be severely limited. And even when tokens do have value, rewards are poorly planned and dependent on a consistent influx of new players.
